City keep composure to seal Premier League crown

Manchester City FC have been crowned champions of England for the second time in three seasons after beating West Ham United FC 2-0 on the final day of the Premier League campaign.

The Citizens only required a point to clinch top spot ahead of Liverpool FC but set out to claim all three. After a sequence of probing attacks, Samir Nasri settled the nerves six minutes before half-time, receiving possession from Yaya Touré and slamming the ball into the far corner. Captain Vincent Kompany made sure of the result not long after the interval, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble and firing in.

"It's an amazing feeling. There is no word to explain my feelings right now," said Nasri. "I'm just so happy for the manager because it's his first title in Europe. He's done an amazing job. He's remained calm all season and got us playing some attractive football. It's been a pleasure playing under him. We have been behind but we kept believing."

The result meant Liverpool had to settle for runners-up spot despite posting a 2-1 comeback win at home to nine-man Newcastle United FC, while third-placed Chelsea FC edged relegated Cardiff City FC 2-1. As for Arsenal FC, they warmed up for next week's FA Cup final with a 2-0 defeat of Norwich City FC – who finished in the drop zone – on a day when their Wembley opponents, Hull City AFC, lost 2-0 against Everton FC.

Also on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur FC secured a place in next season's UEFA Europa League by sending three unanswered goals past Aston Villa FC, while the game between Southampton FC and Manchester United FC finished 1-1. Elsewhere, Stoke City FC saw off West Bromwich Albion FC 2-1 to finish ninth, Swansea City AFC consigned Sunderland AFC to a 3-1 reverse, and Fulham FC held Crystal Palace FC 2-2 at Craven Cottage.
