City go top as Fulham and Cardiff drop

Manchester City FC replaced Liverpool FC at the top of the Premier League table, with Edin Džeko on target twice in a 3-2 victory at Everton FC.

Ross Barkley put Everton ahead but Sergio Agüero beat Tim Howard at his near post before Džeko turned in a James Milner cross. Džeko stabbed home his second three minutes after the interval, though Everton struck back with Romelu Lukaku's diving header to ensure a nervous finish.

City and Liverpool are both two points ahead of Chelsea FC, but the Sky Blues have a substantial goal difference advantage with two games each to go. Everton's reverse means Arsenal FC are confirmed in the top four. It also means Arsenal's FA Cup final opponents Hull City AFC will go into the UEFA Europa League with Everton and whoever finishes sixth.

Fulham FC's 4-1 loss at Stoke City FC means relegation after 13 years and a 3-0 loss at Newcastle United FC demoted rock-bottom Cardiff City FC too as Sunderland AFC won 1-0 at Manchester United FC. Sunderland are three points ahead of third-bottom Norwich City FC, who cannot afford defeat at Chelsea tomorrow.

United remain six points behind sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur FC, who lost 2-0 at West Ham United FC. Swansea City AFC lost 1-0 at home to Southampton FC, who will finish eighth, and Aston Villa FC beat Hull 3-1 to secure safety.
