Ludogorets complete second domestic double

A close-range volley from Roman Bezjak ensured a 1-0 win against PFC Botev Plovdiv in the Bulgarian Cup final as PFC Ludogorets Razgrad claimed their second domestic double in the space of three seasons.

Slovenian striker Bezjak made the decisive contact after a 58th-minute corner, though Ludogorets could have been in front before the break at Burgas's Lazar Stadium, Georgi Terziev heading against the bar from Fabio Espinho's free-kick. Once they were in front, Ludogorets sat back and defended well, continuing to threaten on the break, though their task was made easier when Botev substitute Vander Vieira was sent off for a lunge at Mihail Alexandrov in added time.

The final was Ludogorets's 63rd competitive game of the season, with Bezjak eager to keep the work going as the club plan another assault on the UEFA Champions League, having shone in the UEFA Europa League this season. "All my team-mates are heroes, not just me," he said. "This season has been a dream come true as we won the double and did so well in the UEFA Europa League. For now, we must enjoy winning the double and then we have to start working hard for the next campaign."

"We did the double and reached the last 16 of the Europa league, so this is a dream season for the team," added coach Stoicho Stoev. "Ten months ago, when I arrived at the club, I could not even have dreamed that we would have such a glorious ending. The feeling is great and from my heart I wish that all of my fellow coaches could experience moments like this too."

Since winning their first ever promotion to the top flight in 2011, Ludogorets have won all but one of the six major trophies on offer in Bulgaria, PFC Beroe Stara Zagora winning the Bulgarian Cup last season.
