Huub Stevens has confirmed that he will not remain as VfB Stuttgart coach for the 2014/15 season.
The Dutchman, who replaced Thomas Schneider at the helm of struggling Stuttgart two months ago, steered the club away from relegation but the 60-year-old plans to take a break from football and announced his decision following the 1-0 final-day defeat at champions FC Bayern München.
"I came here with the aim of keeping VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and our arrangement was only for ten matches. It was a very intense time and one of my most difficult tasks as a coach. I am very proud we achieved our goal," Stevens said.
Stevens, who left Greek club PAOK FC a few days before being appointed as Stuttgart coach, added: "My family and I decided to catch up on the break that I had originally planned after leaving PAOK. I want to recharge my batteries."
