Teenager James Wilson scored twice on his debut as Manchester United FC defeated Hull City AFC 3-1 in their final game of a disappointing home Premier League campaign.
While it was a night of joy for England Under-19 striker Wilson, it was an evening tinged with sadness for defenders Phil Jones and Nemanja Vidić. The former was carried off midway through the first half after sustaining a shoulder injury in a collision with Hull's Maynor Figueroa, Vidić coming on in the England player's place for his farewell Old Trafford appearance before leaving the club in the summer.
Wilson put United, who lost seven of their 19 home league games this season, ahead just after the half-hour mark with a neat first-time finish after Marouane Fellaini had headed down Adnan Januzaj's free-kick. He made it 2-0 16 minutes into the second period when he converted from close range, Fellaini's initial shot having been saved by Eldin Jakupović.
Matt Fryatt pulled one back for FA Cup finalists Hull, but Robin van Persie made sure of victory for United and player-manager Ryan Giggs, who brought himself on for another debutant, Wales Under-21 forward Tom Lawrence, with 20 minutes remaining.
