EA Guingamp are through to a first French Cup final in five years after overcoming AS Monaco FC 3-1 in extra time.
Guingamp may be struggling in Ligue 1 – they are fourth from bottom – but the Brittany outfit were often superior to Monaco, who look set to finish second in the French top flight and secure a UEFA Champions League berth. Guingamp went in front through Mustapha Yatabaré after just six minutes, but January signing Dimitar Berbatov equalised for Monaco before half-time.
The scores stayed level throughout the second period, meaning an additional 30 minutes were required. A penalty shoot-out was looming until Fatih Atik edged Guingamp in front, before Yatabaré added his second of the evening. Guingamp will meet Stade Rennais FC – who they beat in the 2009 showpiece – in the final on 3 May at the Stade de France.
