Aduriz finds redemption with late Athletic leveller

A lively encounter at El Madrigal finished honours even as Aritz Aduriz atoned for an earlier penalty miss with an 83rd-minute equaliser for Athletic Club against ten-man Villarreal CF.

The home side were on course to move within four points of fourth-placed Athletic when, two minutes into the second half, Tomás Pina prodded in his first goal in 23 games. Yet Gabriel Paulista's second yellow card just after the hour changed the complexion of the match and while Sergio Asenjo had denied Aduriz from the spot just before the interval, there was no stopping the striker as he rose to meet Ander Iturraspe's cross.
