Sweet 16 for runaway leaders Bayern

Runaway leaders FC Bayern München showed their class as they came from behind to win 6-1 at VfL Wolfsburg and register their 16th successive Bundesliga victory – a new German record.

Level at the interval, Wolves fans were dreaming of witnessing their team become only the third side to stop Bayern – now 49 top-flight fixtures unbeaten – from taking maximum points this term.

However, doubles for Thomas Müller and Mario Mandžukić sandwiched Franck Ribéry's strike as the visitors scored five goals in 17 second-half minutes. The incredible display completed an impressive comeback that had started when Xherdan Shaqiri cancelled out Naldo's opener.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, meanwhile, registered a hat-trick as FC Schalke 04 beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 4-0. The Dutch international broke the deadlock early on and added a fine left-footed effort from the edge of the box – though the chance of a first-half treble disappeared when his chipped penalty was saved. Huntelaar, building on Chinedu Obasi's 55th-minute goal, met Julian Draxler's pass to earn the match ball.

Szabolcz Huszti also failed from the spot in Hannover 96's 1-1 draw with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and Christian Gentner did likewise as struggling VfB Stuttgart were stifled at home by TSV Eintracht Braunschweig. Hamburger SV came back to draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, while Tobias Werner's late winner at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach lifted FC Augsburg to sixth.
