Club Atlético de Madrid have ended the weekend three points adrift of new Liga frontrunners Real Madrid CF following a surprise 3-0 defeat at CA Osasuna.
The Rojiblancos were left shell-shocked by a trio of first-half goals and failed to recover after the interval. Álvaro Cejudo broke the deadlock for the hosts with an instep volley at the back post as early as the sixth minute and, sensing their visitors were there for the taking, Osasuna did not let up. Emiliano Armenteros drive in off the post from the edge of the area and Roberto Torres flashed in a near-post header to end the contest before half-time.
In fourth, Athletic Club hold a four-point cushion after a comfortable 2-0 win at nine-man Real Betis Balompié. Iker Muniain scored from the penalty spot and Guillermo Fernandez added a second against the Liga's bottom club, who lost Damien Perquis and Lorenzo Reyes to red cards either side of half-time.
Twelve points behind Athletic in seventh, Valencia CF came from a goal down to beat Granada CF 2-1 courtesy of defender Rúben Vezo's last-gasp winner. Also on Sunday, Coke scored the only goal of the game as eighth-placed Sevilla FC won at Rayo Vallecano despite Vicente Iborra's late dismissal.
