After nine years in charge of FC Metalist Kharkiv, Myron Markevich has stepped down and been replaced by assistant Igor Rahaev until the end of the season.
"I want to thank the team and the Metalist fans. It's been a hard decision but the only one I could make. What will I do now? I will take a break from the game and plan my future after that," said the 63-year-old, who led the side to third place five seasons running. Metalist also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League under his tutelage in 2012 and finished runners-up to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the league last term.
Markevich steered FC Karpaty Lviv to two Ukrainian Cup finals in 1993 and 1999 before taking up the Metalist hotseat six years later. He combined duties with a stint as Ukrainian national team boss in February 2010 but lasted six months before stepping back to focus on Metalist duties.
Markevich departs with the side second in the Ukrainian Premier League, five points behind leaders Shakhtar. They resume their domestic campaign at home to FC Zorya Luhansk on Saturday.
