Having parted company with coach Eusebio di Francesco on Tuesday, US Sassuolo Calcio have handed Alberto Malesani the task of improving their Serie A fortunes.
The 59-year-old inherits a team third from bottom in Italy's top flight and a point adrift of safety following their sixth reverse in seven league outings against fellow strugglers AS Livorno Calcio at the weekend. Malesani will occupy the Sassuolo dugout for the first time when his side host Hellas Verona FC on Sunday.
The Italian took his first steps in coaching with AC Chievo Verona in 1987 and famously steered Parma FC to a Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup double 12 years later. He has since led Bologna FC, Udinese Calcio and Genoa CFC among other clubs, and vacated his last managerial position at US Città di Palermo in February 2013.
