Defender Alex earned Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain a point during an entertaining final spell of a 1-1 draw at EA Guingamp.
The reigning champions were looking to increase their advantage over AS Monaco FC at the summit to eight points, and heap the pressure on the French Riviera club – now shorn of star striker Radamel Falcao – who host Olympique de Marseille on Sunday.
However, the plan went awry for Laurent Blanc's charges, who came close to a second defeat in as many games when Mustapha Yatabaré headed in substitute Rachid Alioui's corner to break the deadlock with six minutes to go. Guingamp were on the verge of claiming their first home win against Paris since November 2003, but Blanc's men responded just three minutes later in identical fashion, Brazilian centre-back Alex rising highest to meet Lucas' flag-kick with a powerful header of his own.
In the pick of results elsewhere, Sochaux stay two points clear of bottom-placed AC Ajaccio after a last-minute intervention by Vincent Nogueira snatched a 1-1 draw and denied the Corsican outfit only a second win this term.
Montpellier Hérault SC's recent resurgence continues apace, as a 3-1 defeat of OGC Nice made it four wins in a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions. European hopefuls FC Nantes (fifth) and Stade de Reims (sixth) remain locked on 33 points after a goalless stalemate.
Toulouse FC's game against SC Bastia was called off due to access issues caused by the flooding of the River Garonne.
