Costa comes good in eighth Atlético triumph

Two goals from Diego Costa steered Club Atlético de Madrid to their eighth consecutive Liga victory at home to RC Celta de Vigo.

Diego Simeone's charges were reeling when visiting goalkeeper Yoel guessed correctly to repel Costa's 26th-minute penalty. The Brazilian poacher atoned for his error three minutes before the interval, however, stabbing Filipe Luis's defence-splitting cross into an empty net at the back post.

Atlético resumed with the same authority after the break, and Costa rubber-stamped the lead. Bustling his way past two defenders, the 24-year-old fired beyond Yoel for his tenth goal of the campaign. The hosts were wobbling when Nolito reduced the deficit, but regained their composure to move level on maximum points with FC Barcelona at the summit.

Ivan Rakitić hit a last-minute winner as Sevilla FC beat UD Almería 2-1, while Pedro Léon's first-half double shaped Getafe CF's 3-1 defeat of Real Betis Balompié. It finished honours even between Athletic Club and Valencia CF in the late kick-off.
