Pierre-Michael Lasogga hit a quick-fire hat-trick as Hamburger SV stormed to a 5-0 victory at 1. FC Nürnberg, who remain winless, as do SC Freiburg after a 1-1 home draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Nürnberg's barren run has its roots in an inability to convert their five draws so far into wins. However, from the moment Rafael van der Vaart broke the deadlock in stunning fashion, the hosts were never in this contest. The Hamburg captain arrived late into the area and met a cross with a stylish scissor-kick volley that powered past goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer.
Then it became the Lasogga show. The loanee from Hertha BSC Berlin hit a nine-minute treble – with two set up by Van der Vaart – to blow Nürnberg away. Tolgay Arslan rounded off the scoring with a stunning strike, condemning Nürnberg to their heaviest home league defeat since losing 6-0 to VfB Stuttgart in 1983.
In the late kick-off, an 85th-minute equaliser from Nicolas Höfler saved Freiburg from a fifth league defeat in eight against Eintracht. The visitors had taken the lead through a Christian Günter own goal, but were denied late on and finished with ten men after Johannes Flum's last-minute dismissal.
