Germany's two UEFA Europa League contenders, Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg, both registered draws as they returned to Bundesliga action on Sunday.
Coming off the back of an impressive 3-0 victory against FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Eintracht continued where they left off in their game with VfB Stuttgart as Marco Russ blasted into the roof of the net following a corner on 14 minutes. However, the lead lasted just two minutes as Timo Werner headed in a set piece at the other end. Stuttgart should have won it in added time, but Vedad Ibišević missed from the spot to ensure the spoils were shared.
Meanwhile, Freiburg were denied a first win of the season after being pegged back by Hertha BSC Berlin. Things were looking up for the hosts just six minutes in when Admir Mehmedi collected Sebastian Freis' neat through ball before rounding Hertha keeper Thomas Kraft to score. They were eventually to be frustrated, though, Per Ciljan Skjelbred tapping in at the back post from Ronny's long throw to earn a point for the visitors.
