Éric Hély has stepped down as coach of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in the wake of their 5-1 humbling at EA Guingamp in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.
The decision was taken after the 48-year-old failed to steer Sochaux – bottom of the French table with two points – to victory in any of their opening seven games of the 2013/14 campaign. "I must pay tribute to a courageous man. His professionalism and dedication have been a huge asset to the club," said chairman Laurent Pernet.
Hély, who took over the reins from Mehmed Baždarević ten months ago and preserved the Lioncubs's top-flight status, will remain at Sochaux in a capacity that is yet to be decided.
