Real Madrid CF lost Gareth Bale to injury during their warm-up but overcame Getafe CF 4-1, thanks in part to a pair of Cristiano Ronaldo goals.
Summer signing Bale suffered a thigh strain ahead of what would have been his home debut for Madrid, and the Merengues were handed another blow when Ángel Lafita scored with a deflected effort for Getafe after just five minutes. Pepe soon levelled the scores, though, and Ronaldo put the hosts ahead with a 33rd-minute penalty following a handball by Míchel, with Isco – the player who replaced Bale in the lineup – adding a third close to the hour mark.
Getafe lost Míchel to a red card towards the end, but there was still time for Ronaldo to double his tally and cap a fourth Liga win in five outings for Carlo Ancelotti's men. Elsewhere, Valencia CF got their second win of the season as Jonas struck twice in a 3-1 success against Sevilla FC to leave the visitors bottom of the table, while Real Betis Balompié were held to a goalless draw by Granada CF, which was also the scoreline between RC Celta de Vigo and Villarreal CF.
