Everton FC moved quickly after the late departure of Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United FC, signing James McCarthy and agreeing the season-long loan of Chelsea FC's Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry from Manchester City FC.
Republic of Ireland midfielder McCarthy, 22, arrives in a deal worth a reported €15m, a move that reunites him with the manager, Roberto Martínez, who led him and Wigan Athletic FC to FA Cup glory last season, earning a place in the UEFA Europa League despite relegation. England international Barry, 32, also makes the relatively short trip from elsewhere in the north-west as he arrives from Manchester City FC.
The 20-year-old Lukaku, meanwhile, goes to Goodison Park from Chelsea with Everton hopeful that he can reproduce the form that brought him 17 Premier League goals during a similar spell at West Bromwich Albion FC last term. The Belgium striker has made three appearances for Chelsea this term, missing the decisive penalty in the spot-kick defeat by FC Bayern München in Friday's UEFA Super Cup.
Everton also announced that Victor Anichebe will join West Brom for a fee which could rise to €7m.
