Two goals by captain Enrico Cibelli helped league champions SP Tre Penne beat Coppa Titano winners SP La Fiorita 2-1 and lift the Sammarinese Super Cup for the first time, despite playing with ten men for almost an hour.
La Fiorita started brightly and created opportunities to score, as well hitting the crossbar via an Andy Selva free-kick, but Tre Penne took the lead with their first meaningful attack when Cibelli fired in from close range.
Cibelli and company were nonetheless dealt a setback when Moris Tamburini picked up a second booking on 36 minutes and was dismissed. Despite La Fiorita attacking in numbers, however, Cibelli made it two for Tre Penne by finishing off a counterattack with 12 minutes remaining.
Shortly afterwards, Selva scored following a fine solo run, but it was too little too late for La Fiorita. "You never get tired of winning trophies," said Tre Penne coach Marco Protti. "It's special because we had never won the Super Cup before. The lads were great, especially when we were left with ten men."
