Second and third respectively last season, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen enjoyed winning starts to the 2013/14 campaign as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a seamless transition to life in the Bundesliga.

Aubameyang, a summer arrival from AS Saint-Étienne, struck three times in Dortmund's 4-0 victory at FC Augsburg. The 19-goal second top scorer in Ligue 1 last term took until the 24th minute to make his mark in the German top flight, stooping to head in Marcel Schmelzer's cross.

A neat far-post finish and a cool rounding of the goalkeeper brought up his hat-trick in the second half, before Robert Lewandowski reminded BVB fans of his abilities with a late spot kick.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-Min – André Schurrle's replacement at Leverkusen – scored the key goal in a 3-1 win against SC Freiburg. The Korean international restored his side's lead early in the second half after Mike Hanke had cancelled out Stefan Kiessling's opener. Sidney Sam put the game beyond the visitors.

Elsewhere, doubles for Adrian Ramos and Sami Allagui shaped promoted Hertha BSC Berlin's 6-1 defeat of Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover 96 beat nine-man VfL Wolfsburg and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim drew 2-2 with 1. FC Nürnberg.

Top-flight newcomers TSV Eintracht Braunschweig succumbed 1-0 to SV Werder Bremen in the late fixture.
