Siggi Eyjólfsson, Iceland coach
It’s a big step for Iceland that the team have taken today – our first point in a final tournament at full national team level and I'm extremely pleased with the players.
I was definitely more worried than her [Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir] before the penalty. I had faith in her because she's our main goalscorer and she has a fantastic goal ratio. I was hoping so much that she would score because if we had lost our first match, we then have to face Germany and that is not going to be easy. So I was extremely pleased that she scored. It was a huge goal for us and it was fantastic for the future of the team in this tournament.
It was a joint effort with commitment from the players and we really wanted this. Maybe we wanted it more than Norway, I don't know. We have had a few games where the players worked really hard and did not get anything, but this time we got a point and it is a very big point for us. Hopefully we will continue like this in the tournament.
Even Pellerud, Norway coach
I would not say this was an unfair result, although we looked like the stronger team for a long time. We missed scoring a second goal through inaccurate passes and sloppy crosses when there were strikers in the box who could easily have tucked the ball home.
After a while we stopped doing that and Iceland came back into the game in the second half. I was nervous on the bench because they started to attack and got into the box more. It was a typical consequence of not putting the ball in the right areas, but I have to give Iceland a lot of compliments for getting back into the game
There is disappointment in our dressing room – they will see it as an opportunity missed. If we had been a bit more precise with our last pass and with our crosses we could easily have scored a second goal. From my point of view, that is the main disappointment.
