In the run-up to UEFA Women's EURO 2013, UEFA.com presents a four-part history of the competition.
Last week we went back to the tournament's birth in the 1980s; now the story switches to the following decade, when matches were increased to 90 minutes and the finals evolved from a four-team knockout event to an eight-nation championship with a group stage. Germany duo Silvia Neid and Doris Fitschen, involved from the start of their domination as players and now continuing it as national coach and team manager respectively, look back to those days while Victoria Sandell Svensson remembers her debut tournament for Sweden at home in 1997.
