FC Porto claimed their 27th Portuguese title on Sunday night courtesy of a 2-0 win at FC Paços de Ferreira.
One point clear of SL Benfica at the start of play, Vítor Pereira's men knew victory would yield a third straight league crown, and they looked in good shape after 23 minutes. James Rodríguez was tripped in the area by Ricardo, who was subsequently sent off, and Lucho González made no mistake from the spot. The Dragons then extended their lead seven minutes into the second half when Jackson Martínez fired in his 26th goal of the season.
The victory meant Porto finished the campaign unbeaten, and the only blot on an otherwise memorable evening came when Danilo collected a second booking on 56 minutes. "We were very relaxed and the performance was consistent with how we've been playing recently," said Pereira. "In a moment like this, I think it is crucial to thank all our families, our players, the board, and of course, our fans, who were always by our side throughout the season."
Elsewhere, Benfica's 3-1 success at home to Moreirense FC – relegated alongside SC Beira-Mar – proved in vain. It was a more fruitful day for GD Estoril-Praia, however, as they finished fifth to book a place in next season's UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.
