FC Sheriff have won their 12th Moldovan First Division title after a routine 2-0 win at FC Zimbru Chisinau lifted them 12 points clear of FC Dacia Chisinau with two games to play.
In front of a sizeable 5,000-strong crowd and celebrating their 66th anniversary, Zimbru's fiery spirits were swiftly dampened. Sheriff striker Marko Markovski broke the deadlock after four minutes and teenage midfielder Veaceslav Lisa scored his second goal in as many matches soon after.
Valerii Macrițchii's second-half dismissal was the only blot on an otherwise perfect night for Sheriff, who savoured a second consecutive league crown. "It's a great feeling to beat your rivals at their ground and claim the title," said coach Vitali Rashkevich. "For the final games, we will rest a few players who have borne the brunt of the workload over the spring."
Sheriff, having played one match more than closest pursuers Dacia, host FC Costuleni on 21 May and finish the 2012/13 campaign with a trip to FC Nistru Otaci ten days later.
