Dušan Uhrin Jr has steered FC Dinamo Tbilisi to their 14th post-independence Georgian championship with two matches to go, five years after his father Dušan Uhrin Sr led the club to their 13th success.
Four unanswered goals against third-placed FC Torpedo Kutaisi ended the title race; Jaba Dvali struck once in either half, with Mikel Álvaro and Peter Grajciar also on target. "I'm, happy we won the title just as the club did five years ago under my dad," said the Czech coach, 45. "I want to thank our supporters – true gladiators, to whom I promised each of our players would give his all to win."
"I'm glad Dinamo are champions again after such a big gap," added Dvali. "Our fans are in rapture right now. I want to dedicate my goals to the supporters who showed their dedication and faith in us throughout the season."
"It was a three-way battle for the gold, so this title is even more pleasant," said winger Georgi Merebashvili, now a champion under both Uhrins. "I'm happy that there were a number of things to cheer about. We beat arch rivals Torpedo in our 55th meeting, Jaba scored his 100th goal and I played my 150th game in the league."
