Johanna Almgren will play no part in UEFA Women's EURO 2013 after the Göteborg FC and Sweden winger succumbed to a knee injury.

The 29-year-old, capped 48 times by her country, was forced off during Göteborg's league match against Vittsjö GIK on 12 May. Almgren was initially expected to return to action within a week but doctors revealed on Tuesday that she required surgery followed by a rehabilitation period of around five months.

"I'm so tired of setback after setback," said Almgren, reflecting on an injury-plagued career. "It's going to be really tough for me now." Sweden continue preparations for July's tournament with friendly games against Norway (1 June) and Brazil (19 June) before naming their finals squad on 25 June.
