GNK Dinamo Zagreb wrapped up their eighth straight Croatian title with five games to spare after HNK Hajduk Split were held to a 1-1 draw against NK Slaven Koprivnica on Sunday.
Krunoslav Jurčić's team opened up a 15-point cushion at the Prva Liga summit following Saturday's 1-0 win at HNK Cibalia, while today's result means the 15-time champions cannot be overhauled thanks in part to a superior head-to-head record against closest pursuers NK Lokomotiva Zagreb.
"We are all delighted as this was our goal at the beginning of the season," said coach Jurčić. "Without this success we would not be able to play Champions League football so we are very proud. I want to congratulate my players and my colleague Ante Čačić, who was in charge for the first part of the season."
Unbeaten since February, Dinamo boast the division's most potent attack and have conceded a league-low 18 goals. Teenage defender Tin Jedvaj has played no small part in that feat and crowned a breakthrough season with the winner against Cibalia. "I always give 100% and I'm delighted that I scored," he said. "The most important thing was securing another title though"
