SSC Napoli were unable to increase the pressure on Serie A leaders Juventus as they played out a 1-1 draw away against ten-man AC Milan.
With Juve visiting S.S. Lazio on Monday, Napoli took on the third-placed Rossoneri knowing a win would lift them within six points of the summit. They fell behind after 29 minutes, however, as Mathieu Flamini swept the ball in following positive play from Robinho.
Despite that blow, Walter Mazzarri's men responded just four minutes later, with Goran Pandev finishing from close range. Flamini saw red 18 minutes from time for a challenge on Camilo Zúñiga, but Napoli were unable to profit and now lie eight points off the top – and four ahead of Milan.
Elsewhere, FC Internazionale Milano succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Cagliari Calcio, falling behind just after the hour when Mauricio Pinilla converted from the spot after being fouled by Matías Silvestre. The Chile striker also struck the second for the hosts to lift them up to tenth and send Inter back down to seventh, with Roma moving into the top six with a 2-1 success at Torino FC, Pablo Osvaldo and Erik Lamela grabbing their goals.
The Derby della Lanterna ended 1-1 between second-bottom Genoa CFC and UC Sampdoria, who lost Andrea Costa to a red card. That was also the scoreline between 18th-placed U.S. Città di Palermo and Bologna FC, while Udinese Calcio triumphed 3-0 at Parma FC and the game between AC Chievo Verona and Calcio Catania finished without goals.
