Bottom club US Città di Palermo and Genoa CFC played out a goalless draw in Saturday's only Serie A spectacle.
Interestingly, both coach were facing their former clubs, but neither of these sides' respective campaigns have unfolded as they would have wished, and both tacticians find themselves in a battle against relegation at this stage.
As two of the four lowest scoring teams in the league, goals were always going to be hard to come by in this match, though only the sharp reflexes of Stefano Sorrentino prevented Marco Borriello from earning the visitors a half-time lead.
After the break Sébastien Frey was the goalkeeper better tested, and he passed with flying colours in a block with his feet from ex-Grifone forward Mauro Boselli.
A result that does little to aid either team's plight leaves Genoa five points from the relegation zone and the Sicilian side rooted to the foot of the table. To make matters worse for Palermo, Salvatore Aronica was given his marching orders after collecting two yellow cards.
