RCD Mallorca have moved to fill the void left by departing coach Joaquín Caparrós by appointing Gregorio Manzano for his third stint at the club.

Caparrós's 16-month spell at the helm was brought to an end on Monday after the 57-year-old oversaw just one Liga victory in the team's last 17 outings, a run that left them second from bottom in the top flight.

Manzano's first season in charge at Mallorca came in 2002/03 when he took the team to their first Copa del Rey success. He subsequently took up the reins at Club Atlético de Madrid and Málaga CF before returning to his former side in 2006 and guiding them to a fifth-placed Liga finish at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.

He would later serve Sevilla FC and Atlético once again. With Mallorca hosting fellow Liga strugglers CA Osasuna on Saturday, club president Llorenç Serra Ferrer hopes Manzano can act as the "catalyst that will give the team a push towards the goal of remaining in the Liga".
