Gareth Bale scored a spectacular added-time winner as Tottenham Hotspur FC posted a 3-2 comeback victory at West Ham United FC to leapfrog Chelsea FC into third place.
The home team burst out of the blocks with intent, but soon became the architects of their own downfall. Guy Demel squandered possession to Bale, who arrowed the ball inside a post. The Hammers' response was swift as Scott Parker tripped Andy Carroll inside the penalty area. The England forward swept the resulting spot kick high into the net.
The contest would continue to be decided by slender margins as goalkeeper Jussi Jääskeläinen clawed out thumping headers from visiting defender Steven Caulker either side of half-time. Substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson's dipping strike then came back off a post only for Emmanuel Adebayor to head the rebound straight at Jääskeläinen.
In the blink of an eye West Ham schemer Joe Cole evaded the Tottenham defence and slid the ball beyond the outstretched leg of Hugo Lloris shortly before the hour mark. Not to be denied an 11th Premier League game without defeat, Spurs levelled when Sigurdsson scrambled in Bale's free-kick 14 minutes from time. Better was to come when Bale found the top corner with a sumptuous left-footed finish.
