A weekend of FA Cup giant killings continued as Liverpool FC succumbed 3-2 at third-division Oldham Athletic AFC and Leeds United AFC overcame Tottenham Hotspur FC 2-1.
Founder members of the Premier League, Oldham rolled back the years with an effervescent display at Boundary Park. Matt Smith scored either side of a Luis Suárez goal, before Reece Wabara's thunderous header sent the home fans into delirium. A deflected effort from Joe Allen ensured a nervy finish, but Oldham defended courageously to reach the fifth round.
Tottenham also came unstuck against lower league opposition as they exited the competition in west Yorkshire. Luke Varney steered second-flight Leeds ahead and Ross McCormack curled in a second shortly after the break, with Clint Dempsey's header for Spurs proving a mere consolation.
Fernando Torres saved Chelsea FC's blushes, meanwhile, as they twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at third-tier Brentford FC. Rafael Benítez's side rallied via Oscar following Marcello Trotta's 42nd-minute opener, but they were left facing defeat when Harry Forrester beat stand-in goalkeeper Ross Turnbull from the spot. With time ebbing away, however, the holders recovered to force a replay courtesy of Torres.
