Runaway leaders FC Bayern München consigned bottom club SpVgg Greuther Fürth to a 2-0 defeat, while second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen triumphed 3-1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Back in Bundesliga action for the first time since 14 December, Bayern took 26 minutes to hit their stride. Thomas Müller guided the ball into the path of Mario Mandžukić, who beat visiting goalkeeper Wolfgang Hesl with a firm header. The Croatian international struck for a second time, another emphatic finish, 16 minutes after the restart.

Leverkusen remain nine points behind the Bavarians after making light work of fourth-placed Eintracht. First-half strikes from Sebastian Boenisch and Stefan Kiessling put the Werkself in a commanding position, before André Schürrle completed the formalities. Alexander Meier pulled a goal back for the visitors 12 minutes from time.

In Saturday's late kick-off, Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 5-0 success at Werder Bremen. Marco Reus and Mario Götze both weighed in with their seventh league goals of the season. Felipe Santana, Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Błaszczykowski were also on target as the champions stay three points behind Leverkusen.

At the other end of the table, VfL Wolfsburg edged nine points clear of the bottom three with a 2-0 home win against VfB Stuttgart. Elsewhere, VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach drew 0-0 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, while the game between 1. FSV Mainz 05 – who had Shawn Parker (89) sent off – and SC Freiburg also ended goalless.
