S.S. Lazio grasped the chance to move up to second in Serie A with a 1-0 win at UC Sampdoria.
FC Internazionale Milano started the day as the closest challengers to leaders Juventus, but were held 1-1 at home to Genoa CFC. Genoa, who had lost eight of their ten previous league games, took the lead with 13 minutes left when Italian Under-21 international Ciro Immobile sprung the Nerazzurri offside trap and finished with aplomb. Inter salvaged a point thanks to Esteban Cambiasso's near-post header from an Antonio Cassano cross.
The Biancocelesti needed no second invitation and are now eight points shy of the summit thanks to a solitary Hernanes goal on 31 minutes. Third, ahead of Inter on goal difference, are ACF Fiorentina following their 3-0 victory at US Città di Palermo, Stevan Jovetić and Gonzalo Rodríguez both on the mark with second-half penalties. SSC Napoli are a further point adrift in fifth after their 2-0 win at bottom-placed AC Siena. In the late kick-off, AS Roma cemented sixth spot courtesy of a 4-2 win against AC Milan.
