FC Bayern München are 12 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after recovering from a first-half setback to claim a 1-1 draw at home against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
UEFA Europa League contenders Mönchengladbach took the lead with their first meaningful attack of the game, Thorben Marx finishing from the spot on 21 minutes after Jérôme Boateng was penalised for handball. However, Bayern responded with Xherdan Shaqiri receiving the ball just inside the area on 59 minutes and slotting inside the near post from an acute angle. Jupp Heynckes' UEFA Champions League round of 16 hopefuls dominated but Lucien Favre's side showed admirable composure in defence.
France
Julien Féret (5) and Jonathan Pitroipa (71) were on target as Stade Rennais FC moved up to fourth in the French table with a 2-0 win at home against Valenciennes FC. Pitroipa set up Féret for the early opener, and was rewarded when Féret set him up for the second of the night.
Portugal
FC Porto's game at Vitória FC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. It is expected to be rescheduled for January.
