United ways help Solskjær mould Molde

After winning a second straight Norwegian Premier Division title at Molde FK, former Manchester United FC striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær is one of the hottest young properties in European coaching, and he attributes some of his club's success to the lessons he and his assistants Mark Dempsey and Richard Hartis learned at Old Trafford.

"We've got [that competitive edge], the coaching staff, because they were brought up at Manchester United, so that's just in our DNA," the 39-year-old told UEFA.com, adding: "The coaches have the same philosophy, so the coaching we do every day is about expressing yourself, using your talent, playing football quickly on the floor, attacking football, entertaining football. So I have to say that United is the role model for us, we are just on a smaller scale."

Born in nearby Kristiansund, Solskjær started his career with Molde and returned to lead them to their maiden championship triumph in 2011 after a spell in charge of United's youth teams. He is now inextricably linked to the Tippeligaen side, not least because of the precious €2m fee United paid Molde for him in 1996. "That was a lot of money in Norwegian football back then," he said, as he showed UEFA.com round the club. "They've managed to spend that money, but of course that's just a little bit of this stadium compared to the total cost to the owner."
