Steve McManaman: My team of 2012

Unsurprisingly for a man who shone in the colours of Real Madrid CF, there is a distinctly Spanish flavour to Steve McManaman's Team of 2012, plus three players from last year's final.

As a man who knows all about winning the UEFA Champions League, Steve McManaman has picked three players who featured in last season's final, including two from Chelsea FC's victorious side, in a Team of the Year selection otherwise dominated by Spain-based players.

The former England winger helped Real Madrid CF to glory in 2000 when he scored a famous goal in the defeat of Valencia CF in Paris, and again in 2002 when Zinédine Zidane struck one of the most celebrated final goals of recent times.

Known as an entertainer in his day, the 40-year-old McManaman, who spoke to UEFA.com before helping to conduct the round of 16 draw in his role as Wembley final ambassador, named a 4-3-3 formation which certainly fires the imagination.
