Miccoli hits milestone in Palermo derby win

A milestone goal for Fabrizio Miccoli and a second-half double for Josip Iličić helped US Città di Palermo beat local rivals Calcio Catania 3-1.

Just two points had separated the Rosanero from bottom-placed Genoa CFC, but that cushion became five following an impressive Derby di Sicilia triumph. Appropriately, captain and club icon Miccoli opened the scoring for Palermo, just as he did in this fixture last season. The striker reached a personal milestone in the process, crashing his 100th Serie A goal into the top-right corner from inside the 'D'.

Josip Iličić doubled the lead early in the second period, hitting the bottom-left corner from a similar spot as Miccoli had, and the Slovenian international ran the length of the Catania half to stylishly put the game beyond their rivals on the hour. Francesco Lodi scored a fine free-kick as consolation for the Elefantini.
