Manchester United FC retook pole position in the Premier League after three goals in eight second-half minutes earned the Red Devils a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers FC.

After a goalless first half at Old Trafford, Jamie Mackie tucked in the rebound from a well-saved Kieron Dyer shot to give the visitors the lead shortly after the break. But Sir Alex Ferguson – immortalised in bronze on Friday – had already masterminded five comeback wins in the league this term, and eight explosive minutes put QPR to the sword.

Two corners brought goals for Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher, the latter with his first goal in just over a year. Javier Hernández then continued his habit of scoring from the bench to put United out of sight and shift the pressure onto champions Manchester City FC, who play Chelsea FC on Sunday.

In the pick of the games elsewhere, West Bromwich Albion FC went third by winning 4-2 at Sunderland AFC in an exciting game that featured four goals in the final 17 minutes, while Jordi Gómez completed a hat-trick in the final minute to earn Wigan Athletic FC a dramatic 3-2 win against Reading FC. Arsenal FC were held to a goalless draw at Aston Villa FC in the day's late kick-off.
