Dortmund held at home, Hamburg triumph

Borussia Dortmund missed the chance to move within six points of leaders FC Bayern München after being held to a 1-1 home draw by Fortuna Düsseldorf 1895, while Hamburger SV dispatched visitors FC Schalke 04 3-1.

Jürgen Klopp's Dortmund, second in the Bundesliga, dictated proceedings for long periods and were rewarded with the goal their possession merited three minutes before the interval. Jakub Błaszczykowski accepted a return pass from Kevin Grosskreutz and fired past Düsseldorf goalkeeper Fabian Giefer. Düsseldorf rallied in the second half and conjured an equaliser 12 minutes from time courtesy of Stefan Reisinger's thumping header, before the away team's Ivan Paurević was sent off for a second bookable offence. 

Third-placed Schalke – two points behind Dortmund – also lost ground at the top after suffering their second Bundesliga reverse in three outings. With the away side trailing 2-0, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar halved the deficit on 80 minutes, yet any hopes of a comeback were quashed when Milan Badelj scored from the spot for Hamburg in eighth. Elsewhere, Hannover 96 moved up to sixth with a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, while 1. FSV Mainz 05 prevailed 3-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt who dropped to fourth position.
