Real Valladolid CF were Sunday's big movers in the Liga as a 1-0 victory against CA Osasuna helped them jump up to eighth, while Levante UD failed to take advantage of Málaga CF's Saturday loss as they were held at Sevilla FC.
A win for Levante would have moved them into fourth, but they could not fashion a breakthrough at Sevilla, who hit the bar late on through José Campaña in a 0-0 stalemate. As for Valladolid, they moved into the top half of the table thanks to Patrick Ebert's chipped finish seven minutes from time, bottom-of-the-table Osasuna having lost Rubén González to a 76th-minute red card.
Meanwhile, Aritz Aduriz struck twice in the first period for Athletic Club – his first from the spot – in a 2-1 win at Granada CF, who dropped down to19th after RCD Espanyol secured a 1-0 victory at Real Sociedad de Fútbol. Diego Colotto tapped in his first goal in blue and white with 12 minutes remaining to give Espanyol a first away win of the season, leaving them a point behind 17th-placed Sociedad.
Elsewhere, Bruno Gama finished well after a fine run to earn RC Deportivo La Coruña a 1-0 success against RCD Mallorca and seal his side's first win since the opening day of the season. For Mallorca, it represented a fifth straight league defeat and dragged the club down to 13th.
