FC Bayern München continue to blaze a trail at the top of the Bundesliga after picking up their eighth successive win, 5-0 at Fortuna Düsseldorf 1895. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund's problems show no sign of abating, as they lost at home to FC Schalke 04.
No team had ever won all of their first eight matches in a Bundesliga campaign, but Bayern picked up another German record in empahtic fashion in Dusseldorf. Mario Mandžukic opened the scoring with his seventh league goal of the season, before Luiz Gustavo doubled their lead prior to the interval. Thomas Müller hit a second-half double before Rafinha bagged his first goal of the season to rubber-stamp the win.
Dortmund find themselves with just half of Bayern's 24-point haul after Schalke came away from the Revierderby with all three points. Ibrahim Afellay and Marco Höger scored for Huub Stevens' side, and although Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for the hosts, Dortmund suffered their first home league defeat in over a year.
Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt maintained their fine start with a 3-1 victory against Hannover 96, while an 87th-minute goal from Gonzalo Castro earned Bayer 04 Leverkusen a 1-1 draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05. SV Werder Bremen won 4-0 against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
