'Bittersweet' feeling for Spain's Adriana

There were mixed emotions in both camps after Scotland and Spain drew 1-1 in the opening instalment of their UEFA European Women’s Championship play-off at Hampden Park. Scotland manager Anna Signeul, and goalscorer Kim Little, promised an improved performance in Madrid on Wednesday, while Spain coach Ignacio Quereda is confident, if wary, ahead of the second leg.

I'm not happy with the result. The way it turned out, you could maybe say 1-1 is a fair result. We had watched Spain a lot of times before and we knew how they would play so there were no surprises. It was a fantastic occasion, it's brilliant to play these kind of games. I'm disappointed we didn't win, we should've won. We enjoyed the game even though we are a little bit disappointed with our performance. We know we can play better and we're going to do that on Wednesday. Now we have to go to Madrid and win 1-0 – that's the task.

We're glad to go away with a draw. I think we're going to improve our performance on Wednesday so it's good to get a draw from this match. It was great to play at Hampden, there were a lot of people here to support us. It was a great occasion. Most of the Spanish players are quite good on the ball, like the Spanish men's teams. They're all very good footballers but hopefully we can show that we can play as well as them on Wednesday.

I am very happy because I think we controlled the game quite well. Maybe the result could have been more positive, but this is the way it is and I am optimistic about the second leg. We had studied Scotland quite well, we had seen a few games, we knew how they move and we approached the game the way I wanted.

We did what we thought was necessary to counteract their strengths. I think we managed to do that, but this is how football is; they scored a penalty, we missed one. Maybe the result could have been different, but it was an even game. They are a dangerous team and we must be careful in the second leg.

I think we have to be happy, it is a good result against a dangerous rival, and this is what we expected. We also have a bit of a bittersweet taste, due to the chances we had, but we have to be happy and finish it off in Spain. We had seen videos on how they work, their strengths in attack and defence. Maybe the goal did surprise us a bit, but we came back quickly.

Personally I am happy but also with a bittersweet taste after missing the penalty, which would have meant more peace of mind for the team. However, I prefer thinking about the feeling we have as a group and about how excited we are with the idea of qualifying.
