Montpellier Hérault SC remain without a Ligue 1 win at home in defence of their French crown after being held to a 1-1 draw by AS Saint-Étienne.

René Girard's side had taken just a point from their opening two league games at La Mosson, and lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal FC in their maiden UEFA Champions League group stage match on Tuesday. Their poor form appeared set to continue on the stroke of half-time when Max Gradel turned their rearguard and crossed for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to rifle into the roof of the net.

The hosts did at least secure a draw when Rémy Cabella's cut-back from the byline was swept in by Souleymane Camara (70) but a return of five points from six games leaves the champions ten points off pacesetters Olympique de Marseille before the rest of the weekend's action.

Another side with a maximum league haul are Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. They made it four wins from four with a 2-1 success at a 1. FC Nürnberg side who had taken seven points from their first nine available.
