"I can't stop smiling," said FH Hafnarfjördur captain and goalkeeper Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson after his side clinched the point they needed to lift a sixth Icelandic Premier League title.

FH Hafnarfjördur continued their recent run of titles by clinching a sixth Icelandic Premier League crown with three games to spare courtesy of a 2-2 draw at Stjarnan.

Goals from Halldor Orri Björnsson and Atli Gudnason had set FH on course to claim top spot with a victory but Mark Doninger's last-minute equaliser meant they had to settle for a share of the spoils. That did not spoil the FH party, though, as they lifted an eighth trophy in nine years.

"I cannot stop smiling," said FH captain and goalkeeper Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson. "I can only say I am proud to have the honour of being captain of the best team and club in Iceland."

FH coach Heimir Gudjónsson also expressed his delight at defying the odds to win the title. "I am pleased with the game – we were in trouble in the first half but better in second, and it is disapointing not to win but Stjarnan are a great, hard-working team," he said.

"I cannot say this is the sweetest victory, the best one was when we won the division for the first time in 2004, but this victory is good when you consider that nobody believed FH would be a good side this summer. I do not expect there to be any changes next season. Bjarki Gunnlaugsson is leaving but it was great for him to finish with a title because he has been great this summer."
