Chelsea FC are three points clear of the top of the Premier League following a 1-0 win at home to Stoke City FC.
Chelsea looked set to endure an afternoon of frustration at Stamford Bridge until Ashley Cole, with his first goal since May 2010, broke the deadlock five minutes from time. A point behind the Blues, meanwhile, are Everton FC and West Bromwich Albion FC, who prevailed against Swansea City FC (3-0) and Reading FC (1-0) respectively. A further point adrift, in fourth, are Fulham FC following a 2-1 win at Wigan Athletic FC, Hugo Rodallega opening the scoring against his former side.
Elsewhere, promoted Southampton FC got their maiden league win of the campaign, against Aston Villa FC. Sunderland AFC were also on the brink of recording their first Premier League victory of the season but were denied at West Ham United FC by Kevin Nolan's strike in added time.
Three of the top seven are in action on Sunday, when Liverpool FC host Manchester United FC and Arsenal FC go to Manchester City FC.
