Edinson Cavani struck a hat-trick as SSC Napoli continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 success against S.S. Lazio, while AC Milan arrested a run of two straight defeats at home to Cagliari Calcio.
Napoli knew victory would move them level Juventus at the summit and their enterprising approach bore fruit inside 19 minutes when Cavani's deflected effort eluded Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. The Uruguayan international made it two just after the half-hour, before concluding an imperious display with a cool finish in the second half.
Milan returned to form courtesy of Stephan El Shaarawy's double, as did city rivals FC Interazionale Milano, who swept aside AC Chievo Verona by the same scoreline. Meanwhile, despite being reduced to ten men, UC Sampdoria fought back to salvage a 1-1 draw at AS Roma and move third.
Elsewhere, Calcio Catania came from behind to defeat Atalanta BC 2-1 and Marco Borriello's penalty two minutes from time earned Genoa CFC a 1-1 draw with Parma FC. Pescara are off the mark after condeming US Città di Palermo to their fourth defeat of the season, while Torino FC and Udinese Calcio ended goalless.
