Olympique de Marseille have extended their winning start in Ligue 1 to five games after securing a 1-0 triumph at AS Nancy-Lorraine that took them back above Olympique Lyonnais at the top of the standings.
Unbeaten Lyon surged to the summit earlier in the day with a 2-0 victory at home to AC Ajaccio, Dejan Lovren heading them in front after 25 minutes and Lisando putting the result beyond doubt after the break as he swept the ball in with a right-footed finish.
Marseille came out against Nancy looking determined to regain pole position, though, and created a whole host of chances in the first half, before Jordan Ayew headed in a cross from his brother André on 53 minutes.
Elsewhere on Sunday, FC Lorient were made to work hard for their third success of the campaign in the Brittany derby against Stade Rennais FC. Alain Traoré struck either side of Maxime Baca's 32nd-minute red card, but holding onto the lead became an arduous task when Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard was also sent off nine minutes after the restart.
Jonathan Pitroipa halved the deficit with 19 minutes remaining, but any hopes of conjuring another foundered when Cheick Diarra completed a trio of dismissals.
