Montpellier Hérault SC continued to stutter in defence of the French title as they were defeated 3-1 at Stade de Reims Champagne, but Paris Saint-Germain FC claimed a second straight Ligue 1 victory.
Champions Montpellier had won only once in their opening four top-flight matches before heading to the Stade Auguste-Delaune and their problems deepened when Diego ran clear to give hosts Reims a half-time advantage. Rémi Cabella's volley levelled for René Girard's men, who begin their European campaign at home to Arsenal FC on Tuesday, but a third reverse of the season was sealed by Christopher Glombard's solo effort and Gaetan Courtet's thumping finish.
PSG warmed up for the UEFA Champions League visit of FC Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday with a 2-0 success against Toulouse FC. Javier Pastore burst through the away defence before lobbing the opening goal past Ali Ahamada after 38 minutes. Zlatan Ibrahimović's fifth goal in four league games confirmed the result, the Sweden striker tapping in Jérémy Ménez's cross to leave Carlo Ancelotti's charges unbeaten after five outings.
