FC Bayern München have made a searing statement of intent in the Bundesliga with a 6-1 victory against VfB Stuttgart, after Hannover 96 posted an impressive 4-0 success of their own at ten-man VfL Wolfsburg.
Bayern fell behind after 25 minutes as Martin Harnik put Stuttgart in front, but the hosts levelled through Thomas Müller seven minutes later and went ahead almost immediately afterwards as Toni Kroos found the net. Luiz Gustavo then increased Bayern's advantage before the break and Jupp Heynckes' men raced away after the restart, Mario Mandžukić (47) notching his second this season before Müller (49) struck again and Bastian Schweinsteiger (51) rounded off the scoring.
That sent Bayern top ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt on goal difference, with Hannover third after they made light work of Wolfsburg. Karim Haggui glanced in from a corner after ten minutes and Artur Sobiech finished calmly 16 minutes later, Leon Andreasen (52) then heading in from Szabolcs Huszti's free-kick and Sobiech (56) adding his second. Wolfsburg's woes were compounded by a 65th-minute red card for Robin Knoche.
